Worthing Wedding Photographer | Worthing Pier’s Southern Pavilion

Oh my goodness, I do love a bit of historic architecture. Sensitively restored back to it’s 1930’s glory, Worthing Pier’s Southern Pavilion is a dream for a Worthing Wedding photographer! With glorious sunsets, sea views and a classic seaside prom, it’s an ideal venue for a wedding or event!

Maddy & Rob met me back in Spring of 2016 and were an absolute joy to get to know! They knew what they wanted and their ideas for their day were sumptuous. A bespoke wedding photography collection was created to fit their needs perfectly. It started with their Pre-Wedding Test Shoot…. you may remember it from this blog, but here’s one of my favourites from the shoot.

The bridal prep wasn’t high on Maddy’s photography wish list, opting for a more portraiture based documentary of their day, so my day started at the pier in the most glorious weather. Capturing Rob and his Groomsmen while we waited for Maddy and her Bridal Party to arrive. The Pavilion was resplendent in 1930’s art-deco themed styling. Blacks, golds and whites being the befitting colour palate. The tables adorned in gold cutlery, the stationary and fonts thoughtfully represented the era of the building, tying the glamorous theme together.

Their personal styling was on-point too. Maddy wore a simple and elegant gown from Proposals, Chichester, her bridesmaids in gold Jenny Packham dresses. Hair and make-up provided by Claire Beever and Becky Howie. The groomsmen in stylish suits from Greys Suit Hire.

A fantastic feature of the building is its depth. Many venues only have a short aisle… Here, Maddy’s long entrance was epic. Waiting for the music to start, the bold yellow doors open, the bridesmaids start their traverse. Rob’s aprehension tremendous, his emotion clear! There were tears of love and joy as Maddy glided down the aisle on the arm of her father. As a Worthing Wedding Photographer, this is great! A real opportunity to capture this moment in full glory, allowing time for the bride’s entrance everyone’s full attention. With readings from their bridesmaids and a violinist providing the music during the service, dry eyes were not an option. Another feature of the wedding was the beautiful signwriting by J.B.Traditional Signwriting, a perfect backdrop.

The heavens opened during the family and group portraits. Thankfully we had blue sky on one side so it still made for a perfect backdrop! Maddy and Rob embraced the rain wanting to ensure the beautiful venue was included in their shots! When planning the photography for the day, we always take time to consider the groups. Who and where, because despite documenting the day in the most natural and organic way, what many don’t realise is if you just shoot candidly there is no control to ensure certain key people are captured together, quite often it’s during the couples portraiture that the bride and groom actually have time to stand and talk with one another for the first time. This is scheduled to be as fun, fast and pain-free as possible with lovely memories of your family to be treasured forever as a result.

The speeches were held in the main halland were fabulous and funny! For a Worthing Wedding Photographer, this venue has great space, for instance some rooms are crammed so closely with tables it’s hard to move around to capture the atmosphere from around the room. Here I could use the gallery above, the sides, the middle. Perfect for capturing a broader view. Maddy and Robb cut their incredible cake, made by a family member. Stunning in it’s Art Deco design. A white sparkly floor was a hit for the dancefloor with Simon Horn of After Dark Productions leading them into their first dance. With so much influence from Pinterest, they really pulled their theme together.

Maddy and Rob wanted to embrace their newlywed portraits, so rather than one big session we chose small moments as the light changed during the day. This resulted in a great collection of newlywed portraits that truly honoured them and the venue they had chosen. A few of these were entered into some Master Photographers Association competitions which led to a number of Highly Commended Awards and Merits!!  As with all wedding collections, Maddy and Rob had a stunning Italian made album by Graphistudio to complete the memories of their day.
